Kokrajhar (Assam), April 19 : Two alleged cattle smugglers were killed early on Tuesday and four police personnel injured in an “ambush by militants” in Assam’s Kokrajhar district.
The attack took place around 1.30 am when the smugglers were being taken to Jomduar area of the district by police personnel for identification of smuggling routes along Sankosh river.
Police claimed that the police vehicle carrying the duo “came under firing from militants”, following which the personnel jumped out of the car to take cover in nearby spots.
He also said that roads were blocked with felled trees at the site of the incident.
The police personnel, after taking cover, retaliated, following which gun fire exchanges continued between the two sides for 10-12 minutes.
According to police, the incident has reference to Gossaigaon PS Case No. 23/2022U/S279/353/307/289/379/411 IPC & r/w sec-11(a)(d)(e)(h) o PCA Act. R/W section 17/18/39/40 of UA (P) Act .
The 2 killed persons namely Akbar Banjara and Salman Banjara were arrested in connection with the case from Meerut and NBWA was also issued against them around 8 months back.
During the course of investigation in police custody some very astonishing facts were disclosed which revealed .
The smuggling of the cattle from Uttar Pradesh, Hariyana , Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam to Bangladesh via Meghalaya and the money involved in this illegal trade. Some fundamentalist organisations as well as ISI of Pakistan was also involved in this illegal trade and these organisations were getting huge chunk from these illegal trade and the illegal money was used for Aniti India campaign by these fundamentalist organisations and ISI in addition there is illegal hawala transactions in the form of hundis and gold .
The commission of crime committed by these illegal traders have incurred heavy loss to the Government exchequer . These illegal trade has created a breeding ground for anti national activities and anti India campaign which is a matter of grave concern for India’s internal security.
The illegal money acquired through this illegal trade is provided for terror funding. The arrested persons also disclosed and revealed that a huge amount of money from this trade were distributed to the extremist organizations of BTR namely NDFB ,KLO and other militant organizations of kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and some extremist organizations of Meghalaya.
The two cattle smugglers were hit by bullets during the militant ambush. They were declared dead on being taken to Saraibeel Primary Health Centre in another vehicle.
Four police personnel, who suffered injuries, are undergoing treatment at local hospitals.
One AK-47 rifle, two magazines, 35 rounds of live ammunition and 28 rounds of empty bullet shells were recovered from the site.
