Kokrajhar ( Assam) , April 18: Noted author and Padmashri (Dr) Kameswar Brahma was confered the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award-2021 on Sunday at a programme held at Phanidhar Datta seminar Hall in Guwahati .
Padmashri Brahma,was also former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha and noted educationist from the Bodo community.
The award instituted by Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust (GKBT) was to keep alive the ideology and philosophy of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma who had dedicated his life towards upliftment and development of the downtrodden communities in the region including the Bodos .
Dr Brahma was conferred the award for his contribution towards the development of philosophy of Gurudev in particular and all round development of the society as a whole.
The award consists of a citation and a cash award of Rs. 50,000/- (fifty thousand) was handed over to Dr Brahma on on the occasion of 162nd birth anniversary of Gurudev Kalicharan Bahma.
Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) chief executive member Pramod Boro, president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Toren Boro, ABSU assistant general secretary Kastom Basumatary,former ABSU general secretary Lawrence Islary,noted educationist and Sahitya Akademi awardee Dr Ajit Boro were prominent attendees on the occasion.
BTR CEM Promod Boro said that the BTR administration is contemplating to observe the birth anniversary of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma and to declare the day as a holiday every year in the BTR districts.
He said that the Bodos as well other downtrodden communities should try to follow the ideology and philosophy of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma who had contributed a lot towards the society through his religious services.
He has also announced that the birth place of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma,Kazigaon would be developed as tourist spot of international standard.
Secretary of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust (GKB),Dr Ajit Boro said that the trust has conferred the award to Dr Brahma for his dedication towards upliftment of social integration among the society.
