Kokrajhar (Assam),May 6: The death toll in Kokrajhar district alone has gone up to seven with one more Covid -19 death recorded at the RNB civil hospital, here today .
The deceased has been identified as Satyendra Basumatary of Thuribari village in Kokrajhar district. He was detected positive few days ago and was admitted to Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital for treatment and succumbed to his infections this morning.
58- year old Basumatary was a lecturer at Kokrajhar DIET and a sports organizer.
The other patients who succumbed to their infections have been identified as Panchanan Brahma (62),Abdul Kayem Ali (49),Narang Basumatary (61),Ananda Brahma (52),Mahatma Thakur(70) and Helana Kar(70).
Meanwhile, 189 fresh Covid -19 cases were detected in Kokrajhar district today.
Among the active cases so far ,150 are in home isolation,36 in hospitals and 3 have been referred for specialized treatment .
DC Kokrajhar, Bhaskar Phukan said that the death toll is increasing day by day in the district due to spread of the virus .
He said that Covid care hospitals have been set up at Serfanguri, Gossaigaon, Civil hospitals in the district besides 9 beds with ventilation facilities have been kept ready at Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital.
He informed that necessary checking facilities have been set up at Srirampur along the interstate border check gate in Kokrajhar district.
The state government and health authorities have issued new SOP guidelines with effect from Wednesday afternoon across the state to combat the COVID-19 situation.
Despite , the SOP majority of people here are not using face masks and maintaining social distance in Kokrajhar markets .
In Chirang,the positive a cases have gone up to 192 with 13 more positive cases reported in the district today .
