Kokrajhar (Assam) ,Jan 3: Bodoland Territorial Region(BTR) chief executive member Pramod Boro ceremonially distributed Scooters among the meritorious girl students of Higher Secondary examination 2020 under Dr Banikanta Kakati Award 2020 (Bharati Pragyan Scheme) on Sunday in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of Bodoland Territorial Region in presence of students and guardians.
At Kokrajhar, the award distribution programme was organised at Science College auditorium where five students were awarded the Scooters whereas fifty other students were handed over scooters by education department at a programme chaired by Kokrajhar deputy commissioner Bhaskar Phukan.
The scooters were awarded under the Pragyan Bharati Scheme for the girl students who have scored 60% percent and above in the HS examination 2020.
A total 1511 students had passed in first division across the BTADs four districts which includes 279 from Kokrajhar, 287 from Chirang, , 542 from Baksa and 423 from Udalguri.
Addressing the programme, Boro congratulated all the girl students for achieving the milestone .
He urged the students to be dedicated and devote their maximum time while taking higher studies in their life.
“Dedicate to be a good human being among the society and render services for bringing healthy integration”, Boro added.
The girl students expressed their happiness on being awarded scooters from government side which would definately encourage them to pursue higher studies in days to come.
BTC MCLA Rakesh Brahma,BTC education director Jagadish Prasad Brahma, principal of Science College Kokrajhar Dr RN Sinha were prominent attendees at the event.
In Chirang, Pramod Boro ceremonially distributed Scooters in an open field near the Bodoland Guest House,Kajalgaon.
A total of 50 scooters were distributed out of which 5 were symbolically handed over by CEM Pramod Boro and the remaining 45 scooters were distributed by the district education department.
Addressing the gathering after handing over the Scooters to the girl students , BTR CEM Boro congratulated the girl students who were awarded with for their achievement and thanked the Assam Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma for taking maximum interest in education sector.
He said that such schemes of the state government would definitely encourage the girl students to concentrate on higher education as well as empower the girl students .
“These scooties are being given to you by the government to encourage you. It is only meant for you to attend your classes and return back comfortably to your houses , but not to utilize it for unnecessary works , except for education purposes ”, Boro said .
Stressing on the importance of bringing immediate change in the education sector in BTR, he said, “There are so many problems in education department in our region and for solving these problems, we have already initiated discussions with the officials. We hope that we can overcome the problems including problems being faced by the teachers and students within this year”
In his welcome address, the DC , Chirang , Gautam Talukdar explained the background behind Dr. Banikanta Kakati award and the present education scenario in the district. He informed that a total of 287 girl students of the district secured 1st Division in the last Higher Secondary Examination would benefit under this scheme this year and out of them, 50 girl students have been given scooters on the first day while remaining 237 would be awarded at Birjhara College, Bongaigaon from Jan 8.
During the programme, Bhaskar Jyati Mazumdar, who succeeded in the APSC examination, 2018 from the district was also felicitated by the BTR CEM Pramod Boro.
