Kokrajhar ( Assam) ,June 28: People from all walks of life and organisations remembered the contribution of Bir Chilagang Basumatary, ,founder chairman of Bodo Liberation Tiger (now defunct) towards the Bodoland movement, who revolted with arms for the creation of a separate state of Bodoland within India, on his 24th death anniversary at the burial place at Bir Chilagang Puri at Bongshigaon on Monday.
People from all walks of life thronged to pay floral tributes at the martyr.
The programme was organized by Bir Chilagang Martyrs Tomb Development Committee, Bongshigaon.
Ramani Basumatary, widow of late Basumatary paid rich floral tribute to the tomb followed by leaders from various organisations including All Bodo Students Union (ABSU).
Basumatary is survived by his wife,two sons and a daughter. Basumatary was the founder chairman of the then Bodoland Liberation Tiger (BLT) who revolted with arms for a separate state Bodoland state within the country .
Basumatary was born on Feb 1 , 1959 at Bongshigaon and passed away on June 28, 1997 after prolonged illness.
ABSU general secretary Khanindra Basumatary,vice president Khwrwmdao Wary, president of Kokrajhar district committee ABSU Kripesh Daimary, general secretary Kampa Basumatary, leaders from UPPL,BPF,Tribal Sangha,ABWWF paid tributes to Bsaumatary and observed one -minute silence in memory of the departed soul.
ABSU general secretary Khanindra Basumatary said that late Basumatary contributed a lot towards Bodo nation building during his lifetime and struggled with arms for the cause of a separate of Bodoland state.
He added that Bir Chilagang was a leader with a deep philosophy while carrying mass struggle for the cause of a separate Bodoland state within the country .
