Guwahati (Assam), Feb 1 : A professor from IIT here , Arupjyoti Saikia has been summoned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his role in the anti-CAA protests which led imposition of curfew and loss of five lives.
Saikia is serving as a professor of History in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT-G, North Guwahati.
This comes after Cabinet Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a press conference that a central government employee was directly involved in the violence during anti-CAA protests in here.
Sarma had said that there was electronic evidence of an academician from the state who was trying to orchestrate the burning of Assam Secretariat in Dispur.
Sarma said : “He was monitoring the entire exercise from a control room. They had plans to burn down Janata Bhawan that day. We have seen a design and have the evidence with us .”
Earlier , KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi was also taken into NIA custody in New Delhi on charges of being involved with the Maoists. Not only Akhil but many office bearers of the organisation have been arrested .
