Kokrajhar (Assam), June 3: A dead body of a leopard was recovered at Manasari Bijni in Assam’s Chirang district near Manas National Park.
The body was recovered late evening by forest department staff and has been buried after postmortem.
The reasons of the death of Leopard yet to be ascertained.
According to forest department Vet ,Dr Kunjamahan Basumatary, the cause of death of Leopard cat(prionailuru bengalensis) at Manaseri Bijni may be due to positive Babesiosis. ” Babesiosis is an infectious disease caused by a parasitic single-celled micro-organism.This disease is infected by the bites of Ticks.Symtoms are like malarial fever”,he added.
Notably, massive death of wild boars at Pachighat due to suspected African Swine fever and recent death record of wild cats due to suspected Babesiosis positive at Maneswari Bijni near Manas National park are major concern of the forest department and a threat to public health of local communities.
Meanwhile ,three poachers were also apprehended by forest department on Monday while they were hunting wildlife along the deep jungles under Haltugaon forest division in Kokrajhar district.
