Kokrajhar(Assam),Mar 3: “A university stands for universal values.It should be open for intellectual participation and dissemination of knowledge.The Bodoland University must be upgraded to international standard through quality educational services in the near future”, said Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi.
Prof Mukhi, who is also Chancellor of the Bodoland University was at the Bodoland University here to attend the 1st Convocation of the Bodoland University which nearly completed 12 year’s of imparting quality education in various streams.
The governor also inaugurated the newly installed statue of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, former president of the All Bodo Students Union at the university campus .
The university was established in 2009 and rendered quality education amongst the society since it’s inception.Earlier,the university was started at the Kokrajhar campus of Gauhati University in 1998 and later it was upgraded to a full fledged university in the year 2009.
Prof Mukhi chaired the convocation after he was welcomed by the students,research scholars and teaching faculty of different department and colleges .
Prof Mukhi has expressed his satisfaction over the programme performing and hopeful that the university is getting more more development in near future.
“I consider, this convocation as an important milestone in the life of this university because it shows not just what this university has achieved till now,but also the vision it upholds for the future”,Mukhi said .
Chairman of National Board of Accreditation,Prof KK Aggarwal attended the convocation as the chief guest .He said that every educational institution including the university must have quality and diversity along with the proper documentations to create a healthy educational environment.
BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary attended the Convocation ,said that BTC administration and state government was working for the welfare and development of the students community in the region.
He said the university will set up campuses in Udalguri and Baksa district to explore quality education in near future.He said that through the setting up Bodoland University nearly three thousand students have got degrees in various fields from the university and are doing extremely well in their respective fields .
After getting recognition by UGC,under clause 12(B) status,there are 11 professors and several assistant professors presently serving the university with dedication .
A total of 51 students were conferred Doctor of Philosophy(Ph D) and Master of Philosophy(M Phil) degrees during the event. Till date ,over 3000 students have successfully received their master’s degree from the university since 2009 and presently many research scholars are engaged in their research works at the university.
Assam Social Welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma,former VC of the university Dr Mahanlal Brahma were also present during the event.
