Kokrajhar (Assam) ,Mar 12: As the elections to the Bodoland Territorial Council is nearing,various parties are gearing up to announce the names of the candidates slated to be held on April 4 next in the four districts of BTR .
Just a day after the election notification , president of the recently dissolved Saoraigwra faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland(NDFB-S) B Saoraigwra alias Amar Basumatary joined the ruling Bodoland People’s Front(BPF) at a meeting held Thursday in Chirang district.
Saoraigwra joined the party at a meeting held at Chirang block BPF office at Kashikotra in the presence of Assam minister and senior BPF leader Chandan Brahma,BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary,BPF leader Paniram Brahma.
Saoraigwra, one of the signatories of the third Bodo peace accord which was signed on 27th Jan 27 last after the tripartite peace talks. Saoraugwra is likely to get the party ticket to contest from Chirang constituency as ruling BPF party is likely to announce third list candidates within two days.
Notably,general secretary of the disbanded NDFB-S, B R Ferenga joined the UPPL party on Tuesday at Dotma in Kokrajhar along with several members of NDFB -S and well wishers.
President of the dissolved NDFB-Progressive Gavinda Basumatary and several hundred members joined the UPPL few days ago ahead BTC election.He is likely to contest the council elections from Bhairabkunda constituency on UPPL ticket.
Ruling BPF party already announced the names of 18 candidate’s for the elections and remaining names are being finalized, said a senior BPF leader.
After joining the party, the former militant leader Saoraigwra said that all the cadres of the disbanded NDFB(S) organisation will follow his footsteps and join the ruling party within few days.
” I have joined the party to serve the common masses for betterment and welfare of the common citizens.The BPF is working for the all round development among the society and assured that the citizens would getting see more welfare measues in the near future”, Saoraigwra added.
He has also expressed his confidence that BPF will sweep council elections as people belonging to various communities are coming forward to support the ruling BPF .
It may be mentioned that UPPL is putting candidates in all 40 seats,ruling BPF party is contesting in majority of the seats,BJP putting up candidates in nearly 25 seats on its own, Congress is putting up candidates in 21 seats while CPI-M has decided to contest in 10 seats.
