Kokrajhar (Assam),Mar 18: Nearly 250 candidates representing various parties and organisations have filed their nomination papers till the 3 pm of the last day of filing of nomination today for the 40 BTC constituencies in four districts. The election to the Bodoland Territorial Council is slated to be held on April 4 next.
In the council elections,ruling BPF have put up candidates in 37 seats ,UPPL in 40 seats , BJP in 26 seats ,Congress-AIUDF combine in 20 seats ,Gana Suraksha Party(GSP) in 40 seats candidates for the upcoming council elections across the region.
A total 82 candidates from different political parties including ruling Bodoland People’s Front,United People’s Party Liberal,Congress,AIUDF have filed their nomination papers on last day today which included 12 constituencies in Kokrajhar district.
Today ,UPPL president Pramod Boro filed his nomination papers from Koklabari constituency before the assistant returning officers at Mushalpur Sadar in Baksa district.He was accompanied by hundreds of his supporters .
After filing of the nomination for the second seat Boro told South Asia Views that his party was confident of winning majority of seats in the council elections and form the new council .
Today,former NDFB-Progressive president Gavinda Basumatary also filed his nomination papers before the assistant returning officer for Bhairabkunda seat .He was accompanied by huge number of party supporters in to the DCs office in Udalguri.
A total of 32 candidates from different parties and organisations including the ruling Bodoland People’s Front(BPF), United People’s Party Liberal(UPPL), Congress,AIUDF filed their nomination papers today before the assistant returning officers in five constituencies under Kokrajhar Sadar sub-division on the last day of filing of the nominations.
On the last day of filing of the nomination,BJP candidate from Fakiragram constituency Arup Kumar Dey filed his nomination papers before the returning officer at DC office in Kokrajhar .Dey was accorded a warm welcome by the supporters prior to fling of his nomination .
It may be mentioned that it is a triangular contest for Debargaon constituency where Hagrama Mohilary(BPF), Buddadev Mushahary(UPPL), Manaj Kumar Rabha(Independent) are in fray.
Similarly , Banargaon constituency will also witness a triangular contest with Rajib Brahma(BPF), Rabiram Brahma(UPPL) and Pangkaj Islary(Independent) in the fray.
For Baukhungri constituency,five candidates filed their nomination papers today which included Doneswar Goyary(BPF), Pratibha Brahma(UPPL), Rukendra Brahma(Congress), Nawish Basumatary(Independent) and Thaneswar Rabha(Independent).
In Salakati constituency,five candidates have filed nomination papers till the last day, today . The constituency will witness a five cornered contest between Derhasat Basumatary(BPF), Hitesh Mushahary(UPPL),Kabita Basumatary(BJP),Nijwm Mashahary(Independent),Sanjay Kumar Sarania(Independent).
In Fakiragram constituency,16 candidates have filed their nomination papers on the last day of the nominations. They include Arup Kumar Dey(BJP),Motiaar Rahman(UPPL),Anowar Hussain(AIUDF) and several independent candidates.
“I am confident of winning the Fakiragram seat and BJP will fare well in al the 25 seats in which they are contesting . We will ensure healthy living in the council region”, said BJP candidate from Fakiragram Arup Kumar Dey.
Noted BJP leader and Salakati constituency candidate Kabita Basumatary claimed that she is certain to win the prestigious Salakati seat .She said that BJP was working for the upliftment and development for all sections and the communities in the state.
Altogether 41 candidates have filed nomination papers for six constituencies under Gossaigaon and nine candidates filed their nomination papers for the lone Parbatjhora constituency under Parbatjhora subdivision.
37 candidates filed nomination papers till the last day of the nomination filling for seven constituencies in Chirang district,out of that 14 candidates from different parties,including BPF,UPPL,Congress filed nomination papers for three constituencies under Kajalgaon subdivision- Chirang,Chirang Duar and Kajalgaon.23 candidates submitted their nomination papers for four constituencies under Bijni sub-division- Thuribari,Subaijhar,Manas Serfang and Nichima.
In Udalguri district, altogether 63 candidates filed their nomination papers till the last day for ten constituencies.
A total 68 candidates filed their nomination papers till the last day of filling for 11 constituencies in Baksa district, today.
Meanwhile,BPF organised an election rally at Kachugaon today where hundreds of supporters from UPPL,Congress joined the ruling BPF .
BPF president Hagrama Mohilary who addressed the rally,claimed that his party is again coming back to the power with people’s support for fourth consecutive term.He added that the BPF ruled BTC administration was working for all round development and welfare of the common masses .
