Shillong ( Meghalaya), March 17 : Ilamon Thangkhiew, a Shillong-born textile designer, has been recognized as one of the 12 highlights at Heimtextil 2026 in Frankfurt, Germany. Her designs, blending traditional Khasi culture with modern aesthetics, have captivated the global design community.
A Royal College of Art graduate, Thangkhiew’s work showcases Meghalaya’s rich textile heritage, using natural fibers like ramie, cotton, silk, and bamboo. She collaborates with local artisans, promoting traditional craftsmanship and sustainable practices.
Thangkhiew’s achievement puts Meghalaya’s textile industry in the global spotlight. Her designs have been featured in “8 Women in Design to Watch” by New Designers, highlighting her innovation and talent.
