Shillong (Meghalaya), Feb 12: In a significant step towards crafting a people-centric budget, the Government of Meghalaya conducted its first Pre-Budget Consultation Meeting for the Financial Year 2025-26. Chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, the meeting brought together stakeholders from diverse sectors, including education, agriculture, academia, economics, civil society, and media.
The pioneering session enabled the Chief Minister to brief stakeholders on the upcoming state budget and engage directly with participants both offline and online. In his keynote address, CM Sangma emphasized the importance of public input in shaping the state’s budget, stressing that the primary objective is to ensure the budget reflects the aspirations of the people of Meghalaya .
During the three-hour-long session, stakeholders shared valuable suggestions and insights, which were duly noted by the Chief Minister. The consultation marked a significant milestone in Meghalaya’s budget-making process, demonstrating the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.
This development comes on the heels of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s pre-budget consultations with key stakeholders, including finance ministers from various states, ahead of the Union Budget 2025-26 .
