Shillong ( Meghalaya), Sept 27: In a significant boost to Meghalaya’s healthcare infrastructure, Health Minister Dr. M Ampareen Lyngdoh inaugurated the First Referral Unit (FRU) at Mawphlang Community Health Centre (CHC) today.
Emphasizing the need to trust government hospitals, Dr. Lyngdoh dispelled the notion that they are inferior, highlighting the government’s goal of providing quality healthcare closer to villagers’ homes.
he upgraded CHC now employs five medical officers, one junior specialist, three dental s surgeons and one Ayush doctor.
Offering 39 medical tests, the centre reduces the need for villagers to travel to Shillong for medical care.
Dr. Lyngdoh urged villagers to register with the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) and link it to Aadhaar for free treatment. She encouraged collective efforts to establish Mawphlang CHC as a reputable healthcare hub.
As part of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), First Referral Units (FRUs) aim to provide 24/7 emergency obstetric and newborn care, specialist care, and referral services. This development brings quality healthcare closer to the community, aligning with the government’s vision.
