Shillong (Meghalaya), July 15: The Meghalaya New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (MNREDA) has initiated a large-scale installation of solar power systems at 63 BharatNet-1 sites across the state, aiming to promote clean and sustainable energy. These sites include government schools, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centers, and community halls, which will boost rural digital connectivity through reliable green energy.
The solarization of 22 Government Lower Primary Schools is currently underway, while installation work has started at 8 secondary schools, 4 ICDS centers, and 29 community halls. This initiative will provide sustainable and reliable power supply, empower rural communities with access to digital services and education, and promote clean energy adoption.
MNREDA’s efforts are expected to significantly contribute to Meghalaya’s clean energy push and rural development. According to MNREDA Director Joram Beda, “This intervention is not just about electrification. It’s about empowering rural communities with access to digital services, education, and clean energy.” The project is a significant step towards harnessing renewable energy and promoting sustainable development in the state.
