Shillong (Meghalaya ), Sept 27: In a swift response to potential unrest, Meghalaya’s Chief Secretary, DP Wahlang, convened an emergency meeting today after NGOs gathered at Umroi Airport upon learning of cow activists’ planned arrival.
The government has decided to deny landing permission for the chartered flight scheduled to arrive tomorrow at 12 noon, citing the organization’s failure to obtain necessary permissions.
Key Developments:
Denial of Landing Permission: Chartered flight carrying cow activists barred from landing at Shillong Airport.
Section 163 Imposed: Prohibition on rallies, demonstrations, or unlawful gatherings in East Khasi Hills.
Government Action: Swift response to potential unrest and maintenance of peace and harmony.
The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has also imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) effective October 2, strictly prohibiting rallies, demonstrations, or unlawful gatherings.
This development comes amid concerns over maintaining peace and harmony in the region. The Shillong Airport, located at Umroi, about 30 km from the city center, has previously witnessed unrest and expansion-related issues.
