Shillong (Meghalaya) Aug 21: Nangkiew Irat bagged an historic victory against Mawlai in the Shillong Premier League 2025, taking down the twice champions 2-0 at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here today. Himanshu Patil broke the deadlock in the 14th minute, and Ronaldkydon L Nonglait sealed the win with a goal in the 68th minute.
The win was historic for Nangkiew Irat, as it marked their first-ever victory against Mawlai in the SPL. Mawlai, who had dominated their opening match with a 6-2 win over Sawmer, struggled to cope with Nangkiew Irat’s defensive strategy, which involved slowing down the game pace. Conceding two goals didn’t help their cause, and they failed to score for only the second time since returning to the SPL in 2022.
With this win, Nangkiew Irat climbed to the top of the provisional standings with six points, having won both their opening fixtures. Mawlai, on the other hand, will look to regroup and bounce back from this loss.
