Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 17: Mawlai kept their Shillong Premier League 2025 title hopes alive with a convincing 3-0 victory over Nongrim Hills at the SSA Stadium. Robertson Khongriah scored a brace, netting in the 54th and 84th minutes, while Banraplang Pyngrope added the third goal in the 76th minute.
The win takes Mawlai to 18 points, level with Shillong Lajong, who face Nangkiew Irat tomorrow. If Lajong win, they will claim their sixth SPL crown. However, if the result is a draw or defeat, Mawlai’s final match against Rangdajied United on Monday will be the decider.
Nongrim Hills ended the season winless with just one point from nine games, confirming their relegation to the First Division. The team struggled throughout the season, and despite some standout performances from players like Isharwell Mukhim and Caldolan Kharmawphlang, they were unable to secure a win.
Tomorrow’s matches will be crucial in deciding the fate of other teams, with Malki facing Sawmer and Lajong taking on Nangkiew Irat. A win for Malki would lift them over Sawmer on head-to-head, while Lajong are expected to start as strong favorites against Nangkiew Irat.
