Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 22: Reigning champions Shillong Lajong unleashed a scintillating display of football, thrashing Malki 5-0 in the Shillong Premier League 2025 at the SSA Stadium here.
The Reds were utterly dominant, with Mebannangkiew Thabah opening the scoring in the 31st minute. Emanbha Marbaniang added two more goals in the 39th and 51st minutes, while Ribor L Lyngkhoi and Firstborn Khongsit scored in the 47th and 84th minutes, respectively.
Malki’s goalkeeper Franklin Surong put up a valiant effort, making three good saves early on, but Lajong’s relentless attack proved too much for the team. After being held to a goalless draw by Rangdajied United in their previous match, Lajong were determined to get their title defense off to a winning start, and they did so in commanding fashion.
Malki, who had won their opening match against Laitkor 1-0, were outclassed by the reigning champions.
