Shillong ( Meghalaya) , Dec 13: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority organized a National Lok Adalat on Saturday , December 13, at the High Court of Meghalaya and all district courts across the state. The event, held under the patronage of Chief Justice Soumen Sen, saw a total of 653 cases being taken up, including 246 pre-litigation cases and 407 pending cases.
In a significant achievement, 186 cases were successfully settled, resulting in a total settlement amount of Rs 1,66,26,250.82. The Lok Adalat provided a platform for parties to resolve their disputes amicably, promoting speedy justice and reducing the burden on courts.
Chief Justice Soumen Sen attended the National Lok Adalat at Tura, West Garo Hills District, where he interacted with lawyers and litigants. Justice H. S. Thangkhiew and Justice W. Diengdoh also attended the event at various locations, underscoring the importance of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
