Shillong (Meghalaya), June 20: In line with the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” initiative of the Government of India, which aims to enhance interaction and promote mutual understanding between people of different states/UTs, the Raj Bhavan, Shillong celebrated the Foundation Day of The State of West Bengal at the Raj Bhavan, here.
The Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Harish Chandra Chaudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor in his welcome address gave a brief insight on the history of the state of West Bengal while highlighting their strengths and achievements.
The Messages of the Governor of West Bengal, C.V Ananda Bose was displayed on the occasion. An informative video depicting the vibrant culture of West Bengal was also screened.
The celebration included a cultural programme organized by the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC and the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC).
The cultural program showcased a traditional dance called “Chhau”from West Bengal by a team of artists from Purulia, West Bengal sponsored by the East Zone Cultural Centre. Recreations of Rabindranath Tagore’s works titled “Meghamallar,” “From the Depth of Darkness,” and “Chandalika,” emphasizing West Bengal’s significant contributions to India’s rich cultural heritage were performed by the artists from the Geetanjali Dance Academy, Shillong.
As a mark of appreciation, the Governor presented mementos to the participating artistes.
The programme was attended by senior officials of State and Central Government, military and paramilitary forces, faculties and students from universities and schools as well as residents of the State of West Bengal presently residing in Meghalaya.
The programme was followed by a high tea where food items of the State of West Bengal was served to the invitees.
