Shillong (Meghalaya), Sept 26: Health Minister Dr, Ampareen Lyngdoh has sounded the alarm on rabies, revealing that 27 deaths have occurred in the state over the past two years.
Addressing the media, Lyngdoh emphasized that this number is alarming and requires immediate attention.
“Awareness on rabies has become a big priority,” Lyngdoh stressed. “Before the situation deteriorates, we are planning an approach to tackle this issue.”
To combat the spread of rabies, the Meghalaya government is taking proactive measures like Anti-Rabies programme: initiative culminating on Friday, featuring the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary minister and the Health Minister, increasing awareness by educating the public on rabies prevention and treatment and enhancing medical facilities to tackle rabies cases.
Dr.Lyngdoh’s concerns are echoed by her efforts to upgrade healthcare infrastructure, as seen in her inauguration of the X-Ray Unit facility at Smit Primary Health Centre recently.
