Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 15 : A petrol bomb was thrown at Pasteur BH here around 3:30 am today, causing minor damage to the door and a nearby Bolero vehicle. The incident occurred on India’s 79th Independence Day, with miscreants on three motorcycles suspected to be behind the attack.
According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem, “Petrol bomb was lobbed at Pasteur BH at about 3:30 am by miscreants who came in 3 bikes. The fire was put off immediately with little damage on door.”
The targeted vehicle, ML 05 L 3840, belongs to the police.
Meanwhile, a flag of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) was seized by police in Lumjingshai locality in Shillong on August 14. The HNLC which was founded on August 14, 1987, marked the 38th raising day on Thursday.
The HNLC’s activities have been a concern for the authorities, with the outfit recently offering to hold peace talks with the government without preconditions.
The police have launched an investigation into the petrol bomb attack and are reviewing surveillance footage to identify the perpetrators. Security has been beefed up across Shillong with the police and government working to prevent any law-and-order situations.
