Shillong (Meghalaya), June 26 : The National Cadet Corps (NCC), known for its commitment to social service and community development, has embarked on a significant initiative titled ‘YUVA BHAGIDARI’ in collaboration with St Anthony’s College, Shillong. This initiative is aimed at combating the pervasive issue of Drug and Substance Abuse in society.
Under the auspices of the NCC Directorate North Eastern Region, the NCC Group Shillong has taken the lead to address this pressing social challenge. The launch coincided with the International Day against Drug Abuse, marked on 26 June 26 annually.
The ‘YUVA BHAGIDARI’ initiative distinguishes itself by involving not only NCC cadets but also children from various schools in the community. This inclusive approach underscores the importance of collective action in spreading awareness and preventing substance abuse.
The initiative unfolds in three phases:
Training Phase: Selected NCC cadets from St Anthony’s College will undergo a comprehensive training program. This training capsule, conducted in collaboration with Directorate of Social Welfare, Meghalaya Aids Control Society, Meghalaya Police, KRIPA and BIDS, aims to equip cadets with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively combat drug abuse.
Campaign Phase: Following the training, cadets will spearhead a campaign within their college premises to engage students and faculty in discussions and activities aimed at raising awareness about drug abuse.
Community Outreach: In the final phase, trained NCC cadets will extend their efforts to selected schools and communities in Shillong. This outreach aims to amplify the message of prevention and encourage proactive measures against drug abuse.
The launch event, held at St Anthony’s College, was attended by dignitaries including officers from Shillong Group, faculty members of St Anthony’s College, and NCC cadets from colleges across Shillong. Notably, Ms. Jessica Lyngdoh, a prominent figure, has pledged her support to this noble cause.
The ‘YUVA BHAGIDARI’ initiative is a testament to NCC’s commitment to fostering a healthier and safer society through proactive community engagement and youth empowerment. By mobilizing youth leaders and leveraging community partnerships, the NCC aims to make a tangible impact in the fight against drug and substance abuse.
