Shillong (Meghalaya), April 18: The Meghalaya Human Commission (MHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance into the killing of three persons from in East Garo Hills district.
The MHRC on Thursday issued a notice to the DGP to submit an action report to the commission within one month , a press statement signed the MHRC secretary said.
The MHRC stated that it has taken suo motu cognizance pertaining to media reports on charred remains of three Assam residents being discovered in East Garo Hills district.
The charred remains of three persons were recovered by police from inside a pit in a jungle near the village link road connecting Rogu Alda village under Rongjeng police station, around 1.5 km from NH-217 connecting Dudhnoi – Damra – Rongjeng – Baghmara on Wednesday.
In a press statement, SP, East Garo Hills SA Rynjah had said police received verbal information from the relatives of one of the deceased (L) Jamor Ali (35 years), that he along with his driver Noor Ahmed and Zahidul Islam (25 years) left home on April 15 late evening for Meghalaya as they were hired by some unknown person for some important work in Meghalaya.
“Prima facie, it appears to be a case of criminal rivalry among car lifters and Cattle thief groups. In this connection, a case vide Rongjeng PS Case No. 8(4)2024 u/s 302/201/435/34 IPC has been registered for further investigation”, SP Rynjah had said.
