Shillong(Meghalaya), April 15 : A renowned doctor and philanthropist, Dr. John L. Sailo Ryntathiang died due to COVID-19, at 3:00 a. m on Wednesday ie. 15 that April’ 2020, at Bethany Hospital, Nongrim-Hills, here, he is first casualty who died of the disease from the state of Meghalaya within twenty four hours after being diagnosed with the contagious disease
.
This was confirmed by Nongrim Rangbah Shnong of the area , Bantylli Narry.
Dr. Sailo, the founder of the Bethany Hospital, here was diagnosed on Monday . His conditions deteroitrated as he was a diabetic patient and he was 69 years old.
Dr. Sailo, set up a strong Bethany Hospital in Shillong, later-on, set up the Bethany Outreach Hospital in Nongpoh Ri Bhoi District and an OPD Centre in Umsning, Ri Bhoi District and in Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi District and they have a great benefit to the people of Ri Bhoi District immensely.

Late Dr. Sailo had treated Former President of India , Late A . P. J Abdul Kalam Azad when he suffered a major cardiac arrest during his visit to the pine city in his own hospital,
Meanwhile , condolence messages are pouring in from various segments of the society.
According to official sources his funeral will held as per the COVID -19 protocol.
