Shillong ( Meghalaya) , July 8 : The COVID-19 tally rose to 53,244 on Thursday as 532 more people tested positive for the infection, while four fresh fatalities pushed the state’s coronavirus death toll to 890.
Ri-Bhoi district registered the highest number of new cases at 178 , followed by East Khasi Hills ( 136 ) and West Khasi Hills (62 ).

One death each was reported in East Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hiils , Ri Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills .
The state now has 4,391 active cases, while 47,963 more people have recovered from the disease thus far, including 336 in the last 24 hours.
