Tura(Meghalaya), June 28: MTET passed teachers from the Tura Centre in West Garo Hills (WGH) have questioned the reason for them being left out from the interview process recently despite there being vacancies for which they were eligible.
According to the teachers, the number of posts advertised in 2020 for Government LP Schools stood at 114 (Tura Division) but only 96 were selected from the 159 eligible candidates. However they added that in other districts, all those candidates who appeared for the interview were selected to the teaching positions.
“The government has also not allowed MTET qualified and eligible candidates from the Tura centre to apply in districts or divisions. As of now many schools in other districts have closed down due to unavailability of the MTET qualified teachers,” said the aggrieved teachers.
The teachers also contended that in the advertisement there was no mention of any restrictions on applying for other divisions or districts.
“MTET means Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test and should be applicable all over in the state except in other mediums of language,” they asserted.
The teachers also said that the MTET teachers were also not being given opportunities in non government L P schools in other districts and divisions.
“In other districts of Garo Hills, many non-MTET teachers are being appointed which is in violation of the government order, dated Jul 1, 2020,” they said.
The teachers also raised the issue of MTET passed contractual teachers who were qualified as per NCTE norms and had served as assistant teachers in government LP schools.
“They have also been left out despite their vast teaching experience qualification. We urge upon the state and the department concerned to look into the above grievances and conduct the interview for the posts still lying vacant,” the teachers added.
