Shillong ( Meghalaya ), Sept 24 : The state cabinet has approved the manufacture and sale of homemade fruit wines in the state .
This would go a long way to not only the the wine sector in the state but would benefit farmers who produce a lot of fruits .
The fruit wine is an old concept in the state which known for its taste and health benefits .
In fact , locals are known for brewing fruit wine .
Pears, strawberries, bananas, peaches, plums, pineapple wine can be made from every fruit in state , as well from indigenous fruits that grows in wild like sohiong (black cherry) and soh mon (Meyna laxiflora).
Moreover , the state grows abundance of local fruits which could be now used for the production of the same .
Over the years fruit wine was prepared on a small scale , but with the government allowing its sale , this small scale production is going to scale new heights .
