Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 6 : The first convalescent plasma collection for COVID-19 by apheresis procedure in the state started in the Blood Bank NEIGRIHMS on COVID recovered donors from BSF Frontier HQ Shillong.
These recovered BSF personel donors were screened for SAR COV-2 IgG index value (Antibodies) along with consideration of blood group and other required parameters, and ten were selected for the first phase.
The apheresis procedure was done for the first time and it was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) P. Bhattacharyya, Director NEIGRIHMS and IG, BSF Frontier HQ Shillong in the presence of DIG Medical Composite Hospital BSF Shillong, Deputy Director, Medical Superintendent NEIGRIHMS.
The Border Security Forces (BSF) personnel who have recovered from COVID-19 are all set to donate their plasma to combat the ongoing pandemic.
The worst hit by the pandemic and once an epicenter of COVID-19 in Meghalaya, the BSF now stands with 90-95 percent personnel recovered. Over 450 BSF personnel have voluntarily come forward to donate their plasma.
