Shillong (Meghalaya), Sept 26 : An 84-year-old man, the oldest patient to have been suffering from COVID-19 in Meghalaya, has successfully fought against the virus and was discharged from Bethany Hospital on Friday.
Bethany Spokesperson & Nodal Officer Dr. Kyntiewlang Sanmiet informed that the patient was admitted on 11th September with profound fatigue, breathlessness and fever and tested positive for COVID-19.
“His HRCT chest showed bilateral COVID pneumonia features and ECG showed ventricular premature complexes,” a statement from the hospital read.
The patient also had several co-morbidities, including hypertension, megaloblastic anaemia and prostatomegaly.
“He also had low blood cell counts (leukopenia and thrombocytopenia) for which he was undergoing treatment,” it read.
In the initial week, the patient was put on high oxygen support after which he reportedly improved symptomatically.
“He was hospitalised for 14 days and as he left the hospital, our doctors and nurses lined the hallways to cheer on as he was wheeled out and discharged after his test results returned negative on the 13th day,” the statement added.
