Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 20 : A total of 63 new Covid cases were detected in the state on Thursday morning taking the total number of active cases in the state to 862 .
Of the new cases , 50 were reported from East Khasi Hills which includes 41 from the Armed Forces , 8 general public and 1 from BSF . West Garo Hills reported 7 cases all belonging to BSF and in Ri -Bhoi District 5 general public were tested positive .
Meanwhile ,Health Minister, A L Hek said that the overall Covid secene in the state as “not good”.
He said that random testing to check the spread of Covid in the State would continue.
Random testing in commercial areas like Iew Mawlong, Motphran, Khyndai Lad in Shillong and other areas in the State are in progress.
The minister reiterated the government’s appeal not to venture out unnecessarily and to adhere to all SOPs issued by the Health and Family Welfare department.
Today ,5 patients were discharged from various hospitals and Covid Centres in East Khasi Hills District after full recovery .
