Shillong ( Meghalaya) ,March 6 : Fifty-eight newly elected legislators took oath on Monday during a special session of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly with pro-tem speaker Timothy D Shira administering the oath of office and secrecy to them.
Caretaker Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma also took oath during the ceremony .
The state has 60 assembly seats but polling in the Sohiong constituency was adjourned after the demise of UDP nominee and former Home Minister H D R Lyngdoh.
Veteran MLAs who took oath as members of the House included Caretaker CM Conrad Sangma and caretaker Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong of the NPP, Former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma of TMs , and Former Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh of the UDP.
A special session of the assembly was convened for the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected MLAs.The Commissioner and the Secretary of of the Legislative Assembly earlier placed on the table of the House of the ECs notification constituting the 11 the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly .
PM Narendra Modi will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the NPP-led government, scheduled on Wednesday morning at around 11 am before leaving for Nagaland .
On Thursday the House will sit again for the election of the Speaker. The vote of confidence will also take place on the same day .
