Tura (Meghalaya), Aug 11: Alert villagers from near Raksamgre yesterday managed to apprehend at least 3 persons who were a part of a dacoit gang while also recovering some weapons they were in possession of.
The incident took place late last night, Aug 10, in the village of Gondagre under Raksamgre Civil Sub Division. The area falls under the jurisdiction of Tikrikilla PS in West Garo Hills (WGH).
As per reports, 3 persons were arrested from the gang of dacoits though WGH police refused to disclose names citing the matter being under investigation and the fact that there could be more people from the same gang who needed to be apprehended as well.
The dacoits were initially caught by villagers before being handed over to the police for further action. Weapons, including a country made pistol and machetes were recovered from the group. While three members of the gang were apprehended, two others from the same gang managed to escape.
“We have registered a case and an investigation has been launched. The arrests were possible due to the immense help and support of the people,” said superintendent of police, WGH, Vivekananda Singh.
