Shillong (Meghalaya), April 19 : Laitkor parish on Easter Sunday witnessed the unvelling of the bust of Late Archbishop Dominic Jala, of the Catholic Shillong Archdiocese, who died in on Oct 10 ,2019 in a tragic car accident in the USA.
The bust of Archbishop Dominic Jala was unveiled near the bust of a multi faceted personality and Salesian priest, Father Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh who was a great Khasi litterateur, scholar, linguist, theologian to mention a few.
The bust to perpetuate the loving memory of Archbishop Dominic Jala was blessed by Fr Paul O. Lyngkot , Provincial of Shillong Province.
The occasion was graced by the presence of the family members of late Archbishop, Amit Mawrie (sponsor), priests and faithful’s of Laitkor area .
In the afternoon there was a grand Easter celebration in which faithfuls of the parish took part in the traditional dances of different tribes of the Khasi-Jaintia hills . Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh graced the occasion in the presence of the MLA of Nongkrem constituency, Lambor Malngiang.
Late Archbishop Dominic Jala was born on July 12, 1951, in Mawlai locality of Shillong . He was ordained a priest for the Salesians of Don Bosco on November 19, 1977. He was the Provincial of the Salesian Province of Guwahati. Pope Saint John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Shillong on December 22, 1999 and he was consecrated bishop on April 2, 2000.
