Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov 9: In a nail-biting semifinal match of the inaugural SSA Super Cup 2025, Shillong Lajong edged past Mawlai 1-0 to secure a spot in the final against Rangdajied United. The solitary goal of the match came courtesy of an own goal by Arkibor Makhroh in the 27th minute, deflecting Wilbert Marbaniang’s header from a corner kick into his own net.
Mawlai pushed hard for an equalizer, but Lajong’s defense held firm despite being reduced to 10 men after Banlamkupar Rynjah’s dismissal for wasting time during substitution. Earlier, Mawlai’s Kevin Rymbai had been sent off in the 70th minute for arguing with the referee.
Lajong goalkeeper Wanteilang Malngiang continued his impressive form, denying Mawlai a chance to level the score from a penalty kick. Malngiang has now kept six clean sheets in the SPL and Super Cup this year, with only one goal conceded in the entire competition.
The final match between Shillong Lajong and Rangdajied United is scheduled for November 13 at 5 pm at the SSA Stadium. Rangdajied United had earlier defeated Langsning 2-0 in the first semifinal. Will Shillong Lajong’s solid defense be enough to clinch the title against Rangdajied United? The stage is set for an exciting final showdown.
