Belbari(Meghalaya), Feb 14: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma assured the Koch community that their demands, including introducing Koch language as a medium of instruction, would be considered. He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 56th Annual Koch Conference.
The conference saw participation from community leaders and delegates, who submitted a memorandum highlighting concerns such as language inclusion and infrastructure support. Sangma emphasized the state’s rich diversity and the government’s inclusive approach, urging unity among communities.
He clarified that Garo and Khasi languages are Associate Official Languages, requiring basic proficiency for effective communication. The CM encouraged Koch youth to avail opportunities like the Chief Minister’s Research Grant, promoting education and empowerment.
The event concluded with cultural performances showcasing the Koch community’s heritage, marking a significant step towards preserving their traditions and aspirations.
