Shillong( Meghalaya), Jan 3 : The Khasi Autonomous District Council ( KHADC) today welcomed the proposal of the state Government to be made to the Center to amend the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, paving the way for the Garo Hill Autonomous District Council and also for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council to have forty members each, of which, each of the Council will have thirty six elected members and four members will be nominated by the state for each of the Council.
CEM of KHADC, T. Chyne while welcoming the proposed amendment of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, rejected the idea to have members from unrepresented tribes as members of the Council and also the Village Council, as it would put the existing Village Councils or Village Dorbars that have proved the test of time since time immemorial in disarray.
Chyne also said the the Council was facing problems to implement the central scheme, as the schemes were released very late by the state Government.
Chyne also informed that the ruling UDP led United Democratic Alliance in the Council is in favor of Lamphang Blah to succeed Pyniad Sing Syiem after winning the recent bye election to Mawryngkneng Assembly Constituency in East Khasi Hills District.
