Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 25: The National Judicial Academy (NJA) in collaboration with the High Court of Meghalaya and the Meghalaya State Judicial Academy organized a landmark conference on “Advancing Rule of Law through Technology: Challenges and Opportunities” at the Courtyard by Marriott, here.
Chief Justice Soumen Sen emphasized the importance of integrating technology into the legal system, highlighting its potential to enhance efficiency, transparency, and public trust. He cautioned against challenges such as privacy concerns, ethical use of AI, and misinformation, while outlining the fundamental principles of the rule of law.
Justice Aniruddha Bose, Director of the NJA, warned against the emergence of “digital apartheid” and stressed the need to advance the rule of law alongside technological growth. He noted that technology has transformed the judicial process but also poses new challenges in verifying digital evidence.
The two-day conference featured sessions on bridging the digital divide, the role of courts in electronic and digital media, and the effective use of technology in Alternate Dispute Resolution. The event brought together Chief Justices and Judges from various High Courts, eminent speakers, and legal scholars, marking a significant step towards harnessing technology to uphold the rule of law in India.
