Shillong (Meghalaya) , April 2: The police have finally arrested two KSU activists in connection with the alleged murder of the two daily -wage earners of limestone quarries who were stoned to death on March 27 and their bodies were recovered in Ichamati and Dalda, respectively.
The arrests were made in connection with the death of two persons in Ichamati near the Indo-Bangladesh border during an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest.
SP, East Khasi Hills Rituraj Ravi told reporters on Tuesday evening said that the suspects were identified as Mesadapbor Skhembil (26), Sohra, East Khasi Hills and Shanborlang Shati, (26), Mawlong Sirdarship, Sohra, East Khasi Hills and are currently at the Sadar police station after the court remanded the duo to 7 days police custody.
The FIR filed by the families of the deceased victims pointed finger at the KSU and alleged that the incident preceded an anti-CAA protest in Ichamati.
According to highly placed sources more arrests are likely soon.
The two arrested belong to KSU’s South Khasi Hills District unit.
Meanwhile, The KSU South Khasi Hills in a statement has questioned the arrest of two of its members by the police for their alleged involvement in the killing of the two persons at Ichamati on March 27.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, KSU South Khasi Hills president, Ribok Diengdoh questioned why the police had to go to their houses late in the midnight to pick them up for questioning as if the 2 members belong to a terrorist group.
Earlier, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had said that police are on the lookout for the main accused in the suspected twin murders. He also assured that all the guilty will be brought to book.
