Shillong ( Meghalaya), March 2: Police here have arrested the personal security officer (PSO) of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Storgy Lyngdoh, from his residence here in the city on Saturday morning .
An official statement said that acting on a tip off, a team of East Khasi Hills police arrested the 41-year-old HNLC man identified as Storgy Lyngdoh from his residence at Mawlynrei, Khliehshnong Block-C , here .
Police seized one mobile phone along with one Banglalink SIM card and one Indian Airtel SIM card besides a 1GB SD memory card from his possession.
Police are now probing his association in activities like extortion, regrouping, and mobilising support of sympathizers for anti-national activities.
Police are suspecting his involvement in the circulation of extortion demands through WhatsApp to extort money for the HNLC from a number of businessmen of Shillong.
According to information available, Lyngdoh had sneaked into Meghalaya from Bangladesh and was arrested from his residence here during an operation by the EKH police.
He was the PSO of Manbhalang Jyrwa, the former self-styled vice chairman of the outfit.
Meanwhile, District and Sessions court granted 10 days for the police on Saturday to interrogate the arrested HNLC cadre Storgy Lyngdoh.
