Imphal (Manipur), Feb 20: In a bid to restore peace and communal harmony in Manipur, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla today appealed to the people, particularly the youths, to surrender illegal arms and ammunition.
The Governor’s appeal comes after over 20 months of turmoil in the state, which has disrupted normal life and caused immense hardship to the people.
In a statement, the Governor requested the people to voluntarily surrender looted and illegally held weapons and ammunition to the nearest police station, outpost or security forces camp within seven days.
Assuring that no punitive action would be taken against those who surrender their arms within the stipulated time, the Governor said that this gesture would be a powerful step towards ensuring peace in the state.
The Governor’s appeal is seen as a significant move to bring normalcy back to Manipur, which has been reeling under violence and unrest for over a year and a half.
