Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 20: A blast occurred near BSF Umpling Gate on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 10:10 PM, injuring three people. The blast took place in a private building rented by Subham Ch Momin.
“The incident was reported telephonically, and our team rushed to the scene. After investigation, we found that the blast was caused by an aerosol blast due to leakage from a domestic cooking gas cylinder,” SP Vivek Syiem said.
Subham Ch Momin sustained burn injuries and was referred to Guwahati for advanced treatment, while Sandeep Kumar, a 30-year-old BSF personnel, suffered burn injuries and is currently under treatment at NEIGRIHMS. Satyajit Paul, a 30-year-old, sustained minor injuries.
The blast damaged the kitchen and bedroom walls of Subham’s rented portion, as well as the inner partition wall of Sandeep Kumar’s adjoining room. A Bomb Disposal Squad inspected the scene and confirmed the cause of the blast.
SP Syiem assured that further investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
