The Boeing 737 aircraft, carrying 160-161 passengers, declared a full emergency at 10:39 am and landed safely on Runway 28 at 10:54 am .
The pilots detected an “uncommanded No. 1 engine inflight shutdown” caused by high engine vibrations, but managed to land the plane using a single engine. Fire tenders and rescue teams were stationed along the runway as a precaution, and all passengers were safely evacuated .
The aircraft, wet-leased from Turkey’s Corendon Airlines, has been grounded for inspection. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is investigating the cause of the engine failure.
