Tura(Meghalaya), July 13: The Dadenggre District Demand Committee (DDDC) has expressed its unhappiness over the civil sub division being ignored once again in the creation of a new district.
In a release by the DDDC, its chairman, Francewell Marak, lashed out at the MDA government of what he said was a long standing demand of the people of the sub division.
“Dadenggre was created into a civil sub division in 1982 but since then development has not been taking place in our area. Economic growth too has not really improved despite almost 40 years of being a sub division,” lamented Marak through a release.
The demand for a separate district began in the year 1999 when the issue was raised with the then chief minister, Dr Donkupar Roy. It was again raised in the year 2005 with the then chief minister, Mukul Sangma.
“The demand percolates to every resident of the civil sub division, including the NGOs, Nokmas, Sordars, local leaders and people of the area. However despite our long pending demand for a district, we have been willfully ignored once again. We are saddened by the negligence of the present government to our demand,” he added why also asking the reasons for Dadenggre being left out.
The DDDC has continued to try and convince the state administration over the need for a separate district and last submitted a letter to Dadenggre MLA and power minister, James Sangma. They however felt disappointed with not being given the status of a district.
“Such negligence has wounded us and hurt our sentiments,” stated the chairman.
Lastly the DDDC has appealed to the 6 assembly constituency MLAs to look into the demand for a new district and help in getting it fulfilled. The sub division consists of Tikrikilla, Raksamgre, Phulbari, Rajabala, Selsella and Dadenggre MLA constituencies.
