Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov 26: The Meghalaya Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, has approved 16 key decisions aimed at promoting development and good governance in the state. The decisions were made during a meeting held at Ward’s Lake.
The approvals include the Internal Revenue Generation (IRG) Scheme for Engineering Colleges and Polytechnics, allowing these institutes to undertake technical studies and design vetting projects, and generate revenue. The Cabinet also cleared the proposed settlement of GAD land under the Tura Town area, which aims to prevent future disputes and ensure clarity for both the government and the public.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved the establishment of The Park University, a private university to be set up at Resubelpara, North Garo Hills District, and the Meghalaya Teacher Training Academy (MTTA) as an Autonomous Society to drive high-quality teacher education and professional development.
Other key decisions include the procurement of land to develop tourism infrastructure at Umpardong, Umden in Ri Bhoi District, and the acquisition of land for exchange with Defence land for the expansion of Shillong Airport. The Cabinet also approved the Additional Households Electrification under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and the adoption of a Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) governing the use of beacons, flashers, sirens, tinted glasses, and similar features in official vehicles.
The Cabinet further approved availing a loan from the World Bank for the implementation of the Meghalaya Logistics and Connectivity Improvement Project (MLCIP), which aims to improve road development and logistical infrastructure in the state.
