Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 23: In a significant blow to cross-border smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya has successfully thwarted multiple smuggling attempts along the international border of Meghalaya, seizing contraband items worth over ₹16 lakh.
Acting on specific information, the troops of the 4th Battalion BSF conducted special operations near the International Border, rescuing 27 cattle concealed in a jungle area near the border. These cattle were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh . The seized cattle have been handed over to PPP Muktapur for further necessary action.
In another operation, alert troops of the 193rd Battalion BSF intercepted a pick-up vehicle (No. ML-05-AC) loaded with cosmetic items without valid documents near the border area in East Khasi Hills district.
With the festive season approaching, the BSF is on high alert to prevent any illegal activities along the border.
