Shillong(Meghalaya) Sep 15 : The Opposition Congress led by the Leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma today staged a walkout at the Assembly as a mark of protest when the Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh refused to admit the short duration discussion on suspension of police personnel involved in the killing of surrendered Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) leader , C . Thangkhiew on August 13 last .
The discussion was moved by Congress opposition Member, P.T. Sawkmie. As soon as the reply of the Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on the call attention motion moved by the member of Congress Opposition Member George B. Lyngdoh on filing of FIR against one Vicky Dey, P.T. Sawkmie intervened and asked the speaker on the fate of his short duration discussion which was not mentioned in today’s last of private business, Sawkmie pleaded with the speaker that time should be given for discussing the issue raised by him pertaining to suspension of police personnel involved in the Mawlai Kynton Massar incident.
When he was told that the matter was subjudice, as the state government has constituted a judicial enquiry to probe into the incident, Sawkmie said this issue should be allowed to be discussed in the House, as the same subject was discussed yesterday during question hour.
Other opposition members of the Congress, H.M. Shangpliang , George B. Lyngdoh also pleaded that the matter should be allowed for discussion. The leader of opposition Dr. Mukul M. Sangma stood up and said that the speaker should allow a discussion as the members would only talk about the administrative aspect of the state government relating to the opposition’s demand for suspension of police personnel.
When the speaker disallowed discussion on the matter, the entire opposition staged a walkout, as a mark of protest.
