Tura(Meghalaya), June 23: The All Garo Hills SSA School Teacher’s Association (AGHSSASTA) has called the move of the Block Mission Coordinator, Clarinda R Marak to hold MTET exams for teachers needing to pass the exams to remain as teachers as not only official but also controversial.
As per the teachers, the Songsak BMC in East Garo Hills (EGH) through a circular on June 8 asked all CRCs under the Block that all teachers appointed after Aug/Sep 2010 may have to pass MTET exam or face termination. After confirming the notification, the AGHSSASTA held a discussion with the BMC to confirm if there was any such order or re-notification even after the postponement by the state government.
“We confirmed that no such order has been made from the office of the DSEO and this is the handiwork of the BMC – Songsak herself. We therefore cannot accept her notification for passing the MTET exam or face termination threat. Obviously her notification goes against NCTE norms as no such order is mentioned on termination under NCTE,” said the AGHSSASTA through a press release today, Jun 23.
The AGHSSASTA further complained on the matter to the minister of education seeking his intervention.
The teachers added that the move of the BMC is akin to harassment when they aren’t even being paid regularly.
“She is harassing and threatening teachers by issuing this illegal notification. Such self based notifications were baseless and illegal. Her misusing of power is causing a bad name for the entire system of education in the state. If she continues to hold the post of BMC, teachers will continue suffering,” they added.
AGHSSASTA asked the minister of education to initiate an inquiry into the matter and take action against the illegal actions of the BMC.
