Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 9: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma handed over appointment letters to 76 newly recruited Sub-Inspectors, marking a significant milestone in their careers. The recruits, selected from over 21,000 applicants, include 49 males and 27 females, with women constituting over 35% of the intake.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma emphasized the trust reposed in the police by the public and urged the recruits to live up to expectations. He stressed the importance of efficient, effective, and people-centric policing, reminding them to remain humane in the exercise of authority.
Director General of Police Ms. Idashisha Nongrang highlighted the rigorous recruitment process, begun with the advertisement in March 2024. The recruits will undergo basic training at the North Eastern Police Academy, starting Jan 30, and will be deployed across 12 districts in Meghalaya.
