Shillong ( Meghalaya), Feb 20 : Five time MLA and Former Home Minister H.Donkupar R Lyngdoh passed away due to a massive heart attack at the Bethany Hospitals here today .
Lyngdoh was the United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate from the Sohiong constituency for the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state on Feb 27 .
He was 68 .
Doctors attending on him said that he was admitted to the hospital at 3 pm today in a serious state. His condition further worsened and was declared dead at 6 pm .
A veteran politician spreading over 3 decades , he was associated with various regional and national parties . After emerging victorious for 5 consecutive terms he lost the last election on Congress ticket and this year he was trying his luck on UDP ticket .
On hearing the news hundreds of his followers thronged his residence at Laitumkhrah residence to pay their respects to the departed leader .
Family members told this reporter that he was extremely stressed up and was hardly getting sleep or rest during the campaign period .
The mortal remains of the late leader would be taken to his hometown in Sohiong on Tuesday and the funeral would be held on Feb 24 .
